ABUJA, Nigeria - NOI Polls announces the second NOI-Gallup Poll

It will be conducted across Nigeria in November 2007. This broad, in-depth Poll will interview 2,000 randomly selected individuals, age 15 or more. Besides doubling the sample size of the first NOI-Gallup Poll, this new Poll will allow for a more reliable regional comparison of results. For example, it will be possible to compare the opinions of Nigerians in Lagos with those in Kano or the Niger Delta.

This second Poll will provide information on opinions of Nigerians on a wide variety of topics such as income, remittances, banking and savings. It will include an in-depth look at the important issues associated with the Niger Delta. Additional topics cover a variety of health issues including Malaria and HIV/AIDS, education and children's values. The opinions of Nigerians will also inform the government of the need for and quality of the Nigerian infrastructure and corruption in government institutions. Other topics include security, housing and gender issues. Donor aid is covered as well as the opinions of Nigerians on the impact of China and India on the economy of Nigeria. Finally, two other examples of the variety of topics on the second NOI-Gallup Poll include corporate responsibility and business startup and empowerment.

In our continued effort to insure high quality data, a processing error was identified in the first Poll. When Nigerians were asked, "Is the national government doing enough for the people of the Niger Delta?" the NOI-Gallup Poll reported incorrect data with 92% of Nigerians saying the government was not doing enough. It was found that all most all "undecided" opinions were incorrectly coded. The corrected data shows that the National Government has an opportunity to influence the opinions of Nigerians in that now 41% of Nigerians say the Government is not doing enough but more than 1 in 4 (27%) are undecided.

NOI-Gallup Polls is committed to the highest standards of quality and transparency in reporting its data and analysis. To this end, it conducts not only ex-ante quality controls but also ex-post checks and pledges to report any errors or anomalies it might encounter in such ex-post checks.
